Abbott grew up in Carpinteria near her present home. She studied painting with Richard Meryman, Clarence Hinkle, and Douglass Parshall prior to receiving formal education at the Los Angeles Art Center. Subsequently, she enrolled at the Arts Students League in New York, and continues her studies with Adult Education in Santa Barbara. A signature member of the California Art Club, Abbott is also a member of the Santa Barbara's Art Association, and The Santa Barbara Arts Council, and the OAK Group of Santa Barbara. Her gallery representations include Maureen Murphy Fine Arts and the John Pence Gallery.
