McCormick’s paintings are informed by both contemporary and traditional elements of landscape painting. The idea of “landscape” in painting continues to shift along with the cultural imperatives of each of epoch. Landscape painting today means something different than it did to the culture in the past. While it may not have been the dominant concern of past landscape artists, depletion of the natural environment and the fragility of the natural resources is an implicit concern in the work and with many contemporary landscape painters today.
