I'm inspired by the Sonoma and Napa Buckelew Staff
10.12.17

With a sense of relief I can confirm that all of the clients and staff at Buckelew Programs in Sonoma, Napa and Marin are safe and accounted for.  I was fortunate yesterday to spend some time with staff in Sonoma County. Our staff is out taking care of needs in our community.  Some are volunteering at evacuation centers, providing transportation and checking in on all of the clients while dealing with their own loss, anxiety and shock.  They have spent a great deal of time talking with clients about food, lighting and being safe as much of the area is without power, water or gas.

Our colleagues have been through so much the past few days and yet have maintained their sense of humor and are finding comfort in the daily work routine, engaging clients and being with one another.  As I heard stories of their heroic acts (which they likely would not define that way), of their loss and of the uncertainty that they are coping with every day, I am reminded of how fragile life is and at the same time, how resilient we all can be.

Things continue to be really unsettled with fires spreading or popping back up in areas where they appeared to be out, clients and staff without electricity, gas and in some instances water.  There is a great deal of concern in both Napa and Sonoma counties about the winds picking up.

We know right now that both clients and staff will need food and financial support as things progress.  We are in the process of putting together communication on where food items can be dropped off and how donations can be made for any of you who want to contribute. These are extremely difficult times; yet the human spirit and kindness that so many are extending to total strangers, clients and coworkers is not only heartwarming, but a good reminder of who and what we are all about as individuals and as a community.

We will continue to update as new information is available. For the most current resources and support, please follow our Twitter feed to the right of this page.

In peace,
Tamara
